New Dirt April 9, 2020

FROM THE GROUND

Spring has sprung quickly and with force but we are prepared to meet the earth with energy, passion and purpose with plans for growing well and growing amidst change. We have been getting dirty this week with a first round of plantings, laying drip lines, and preparing our high tunnels for new cropping techniques. Onions and Brassicas are in the ground – broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale & collards.

Our greenhouses are full of transplants to be shared with friends in community gardens and neighbors looking to grow their own food. We will be supporting NorthEast Neighborhood’s gardens again this year, as well as Cottage Hill Gardens and a new garden located behind Our Daily Bread. In the next few weeks a tool library will be curated with resources for community gardens and individual gardeners to utilize upon need, increasing resident access to growing food and increasing urban green space!

ON THE STREET

This season, York Fresh Food Farms is increasing its services to meet the needs of our community. In doing so, we hope to make greater connections with our neighbors and offer the safest Mobile Produce Market experience in these cautionary times.

Each week (starting in June), we will send out a link to an order form to all of our subscribers. You can pick up your order at the Mobile Produce Market stop of your choice or request delivery in the neighborhood surrounding said Mobile Produce Market stop. In the next few weeks, York Fresh Food Farms will be providing maps for delivery routes by day, based on the confirmed 2020 Mobile Produce Market schedule.

We are exploring partnerships with other growers to provide a connection between rural farmers and urban food access needs. Further, we are working with the City Bureau of Health to utilize Penn Market as a hub for its Farm to Pantry initiative, creating a collective of farmers and vendors to feed our community with increased access to safe, healthy, affordable foods. Penn Market will therefore most likely serve as an additional pick up location for orders placed with York Fresh Food Farms’ Mobile Produce Market.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you may have. Our goal is to be adaptable amidst uncertainty, ensuring our ability to continue to feed our neighbors & share all of the veggie vibes with York City.
